men's reentry & empowerment program

The men’s reentry and empowerment program is a structured, 15-week initiative designed to support incarcerated men as they prepare for successful reintegration into the community. The program has been in place since just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to operate today, reflecting its adaptability and long-term impact. Led by Kim Alston, the initiative was built from the ground up and emphasizes accountability, personal growth, and sustainable life skills. The curriculum includes Straight Talk, a psychology-based course facilitated by the program lead, along with cultural awareness, self-esteem development, and Smart Recovery, a substance-use recovery program. In addition, the program incorporates employment readiness through workshops that connect participants with motivational speakers and community partners to support post-release job opportunities. Participants are expected to actively engage in all sessions and may not miss more than two classes, reinforcing consistency, responsibility, and commitment throughout the reentry process.

Participants describe Project NAM as a turning point that reshaped how they see choice, responsibility, and their future:

“This class truly helped me see what I need to do to rebuild my life.”

“Giving men your time showed us dedication, compassion, and that you want to see us succeed and not become another statistic.”

"Project NAM has given my brothers and me a new outlook on life and helped us stop and think about the choices we make.”

“We’ve been given this day to pivot and go in another direction — to start over and do things differently."
