women's reentry & empowerment program

The women’s prison reentry program is a 15-week, structured empowerment initiative designed to support women as they transition back into the community. The program is led by Kim Alston who has dedicated many years to correctional work, serving as a director at the women’s prison for 15 years and developing numerous workshops from the ground up. She also created a comprehensive employment workshop for Fernhurst, bringing in a motivational speaker and partnering with Oahu Transit Services to provide employment opportunities for women. The program curriculum includes Straight Talk, a psychology-based class facilitated by the Kim herself, along with cultural awareness, self-esteem development, and Smart Recovery, a substance-use recovery program. Participants are expected to fully engage in all sessions and may not miss more than two classes, reinforcing accountability, consistency, and personal growth throughout the reentry process.
